Worship Arts
________________________________________________________________________________________________
Our worship services feature a blend of both traditional and contemporary styles. For example, we begin each service by showing a video by a contemporary artist such as Stephen Curtis Chapman, Casting Crowns, Mercy Me or Third Day. The purpose of the video (which we use as an introit) is to help us prepare our hearts and minds for worship. Yet along with the contemporary music featured in our introit, we also sing traditional hymns, featuring a beautiful, historic pipe organ. Each service also includes at least one scripture reading from both the Old Testament and New Testament (typically following the lectionary schedule.) The goal of each sermon is to deliver a message which helps us undertand how the passages included in the scripture readings are relevant to us today. Props and other visual aids are often used during the sermon, and often the messages include congregational participation. We also feature a time for children to come forward and participate in a message especially prepared by the pastor each Sunday before they depart for Sunday school. Come visit us at Orono United Methodist Church for a service you haven't experienced before!
